TMS Discussion Threads
The following is a list of links to some of the better discussions from our old forum. However, we encourage you tovisit our new foruminstead.

  • Is back surgery sometimes necessary, when risking paralysis?: "I just really want to know if Dr. Sarno would agree with my doctor once he saw my MRI or if he would say that paralysis was an impossibility and therefore no need for surgery. I'm trying to find anything written by Dr. Sarno that discusses back surgery thats needed to avoid paralysis."
  • Can a structural problem resolve and TMS start in location?: "Everyone I've seen in the medical community believes my situation started with an injury, but nothing shows up on tests. Is it possible that it did start with an injury which has since healed, but TMS has caused me to continue to feel pain? Or maybe it's been TMS all along."
  • TMS and GAD: "Anytime you hear yourself saying "what if", you are inadvertently creating and/or exacerbating significant tension in your body which will either initiate or 'fuel' a TMS scenario. As a part of your mindfulness practice, notice the 'what if'' language."
  • Post-surgery doubts: "Starting to wonder if TMS is a part of this, but without seeing Dr. Sarno, who knows?? I will continue to do TMS work. It can't hurt. The problem is believing in TMS after surgery. It's hard to forget your medical past."
  • Should doctors agree on the physiology behind “TMS” (aka “MBS” “PPD” etc): "The sense that I get about Dr. Pert's writings is that they could help patients make sense of their pain, but that much more research would have to be done to test the theories before the medical establishment would find them as a credible explanation."

Forest, I like the slogan "The TMS Wiki - overcoming back pain together!" which you suggested, although I think this would be better:

"The TMS Wiki - overcoming pain together!"
