TMS Discussion Threads
The following is a list of links to some of the better discussions from our old forum. However, we encourage you tovisit our new foruminstead.

  • Difficult recovery from TMS: After 30 years of self study on TMS, my short and sweet take: The skills and traits that put you in the TMS box (over-achieving, striving, make things happen) are NOT the skills/traits that will get you out of the TMS box: patience, non attachment to outcomes, calmness.

  • Using Sarno’s method to treat disc extrusions: It is 3.5 years since my back pain episode, and though I don't journal as much, I do still journal. Got to a point where I journaled (and still do) about forgiveness of myself and others whom I feel "wronged" me. We have years of buried events and feelings in our bodies that don't come out overnight!

  • Somatic Experiencing, from Peter Levine’s Healing Trauma: I too am aware that I have a tendency to become 'obsessed' with books and information to help me 'find the reason for my pain'. I now aim to move away from Intellectualising and searching for the 'perfect' answer rather than accepting and allowing feelings.

  • Identifying a common name for mindbody syndromes: Personally, I think if psychosomatic had not gotten such a bad rap from the world of psychology all these years, and in the minds of the general public, it would be the best and most comprehensive word/diagnoses to use.

  • Susan Derozier, an expert in journaling, wrote us an email: Dear Susan, Thank you so much for sharing such sage advice about journaling. I journaled a few years ago, specifically to recover from TMS, and found it very beneficial, although sometimes journaling caused me to have to go thru more physical pain to get to the relief.
