An update on my progress. I have read all three of the Dr. Sarno's books and have been making progress. Admittedly, not in a straight line, my so called “sciatica” symptoms moved about, I had better days, worse days, but the good days were always better than previously. In the meantime, as advised by Hilary, so as not to antagonize my GP, I did not refuse the acupuncture offered by the NHS. I thought that if it works as a placebo it would be fine, it would not affect what I now understand about where the pain comes from. On the morning of the last treatment I had already been significantly better. After the treatment a turn for the worse for that day, and practically back to square one the next day. Is it likely that the potential placebo acted as a nocebo?
