TMS Discussion Threads
The following is a list of links to some of the better discussions from our old forum. However, we encourage you tovisit our new foruminstead.

  • Uncovering strong feelings through journaling: I think a lot people may worry about opening up a "can of worms." I would also add that in some cases people do experience an increase in pain as the first start journaling. This is simply just a person's unconscious feeling threatened.
  • Foot pain and TMS: The fact that your pain has not responded to the mind body treatment may be because you still think it could be structural. Believing that our symptoms are caused by our emotions is key to recovery. You are not however asked to believe without evidence.
  • Anger and compassion: The more angry people get with their symptoms, or the more frustrated they get with their lack of progress, the worse things can get. Reduce any inner conflict, be kind to yourself, accept the emotional cause and explore what is underlying the symptoms.
  • Is OCD a TMS equivalent: Howard Stern, who is a big fan of Dr. Sarno, used the TMS theory to cure his OCD. That was after he healed his back pain (TMS). I actually think that most mental/emotional difficulties are due to issues we are avoiding or feel unable to face.
  • Tension Myositis Syndrome and The Presence Process: Some day you will look back and marvel at the incredible journey you have begun here. Everthing will become increasingly clearer and life increasingly easier. And know that this work you are doing is healing not only you. Your family is being healed forward and back. As micheal says, "the way out is through" and you are going through!

The NY Times did a review of Tim Parks' Teach us to Sit Still. The book gives an overview of how Parks overcame chronic pelvic pain by using Vipassana meditation. The review is located at http://www.nytimes.com/2011/06/26/books/review/book-review-teach-us-to-sit-still-by-tim-parks.html?pagewanted=1&_r=1&ref=books . Overall the book sounds interesting. Has anyone read it?
