TMS Discussion Threads
The following is a list of links to some of the better discussions from our old forum. However, we encourage you to visit our new forum instead.

  • An email from Journaling Expert Susan Derozier: "I noted the question asked at the end of your pages regarding using the dialoguing technique to connect with your inner child. In my opinion, it is probably not the best technique to use from the journaling standpoint. When one is using it they are normally trying to access information they don't have (ie. such as a dialogue with your pain or another person). Since everything about your inner child is already held within you, I think it could create a distortion rather than connect you with the authentic child self. I believe there are other ways to open the channel."

  • Another syndrome name: "This is going to be super challenging, but what is it going to take to get at least the TMS docs to agree on one name for tension induced pain? I notice Dr. Schubiner's name for TMS is MBS - Mind Body Syndrome. Brady names it AOS - Autonomic Overload Syndrome. I understand these guys want to promote their program and it can increase exposure for Tension Induced Pain - TIP - LOL! Ultimately it causes confusion for the patient. Anyone have thoughts on this or is it - Any attention/exposure is good exposure?"

  • GAD: "The fear aspect of TMS is so scary and difficult to counter -- even with constant rational/positive self-talk. How do you spar with fear in your most vulnerable moments? i.e., waking from sleep and needing to use the bathroom and immediately think....""will my back be bad when my feet hit the floor""?....or trying to figuring out ahead of time what will I do if when on holiday and my back acts up? Fearing, that I will ruin the vacation for all. :-("

  • The Presence Process: "For those people considering the Presence Process I just wanted to tell you what I learned along the way...PP helped me to understand “Why does this keep happening to me?” And how to do something about it. PP helped me understand that I should not ignore the physical or emotional pain, or fear it, resist, or sedate it (with drugs or alcohol). It suggests that we should feel our pain and discomfort rather than running from it. I now understand that TMS was my body’s way of getting my attention so that I could get my life in balance."

  • SCIATIC PAIN - LATEST UPDATE: "I saw a 2nd neurologist last week, who assured me that neurologically I was 200% OK [the original nerve conductor test I had done by a colleague was wrong and didn't correspond to the sciatica] he then added he did NOT know what was causing the pain but whatever it was it was BENIGN!!! I nearly flung my arms around him, as now I and am sure all of you know that it has to be TMS AND TMS alone. I am very keen therefore to get a new book having read all of Dr. Sarno's several times and wondered if you could recommend any as there are so many out there."

gibbon how many TMS-ers suffer from tinnitus? 13 Aug 20 2010, 11:52 AM EDT by TMSAndrew

after having a good level of success with my RSI, I've also started to see if i can address my tinnitus. This predates my RSI, but with quite a large proportion of TMS sufferers also reporting tinnitus, then i am obviously wondering if this is also part of the same thing. I did used to play in a band at rather loud volumes for rather long periods of time, so i'm not entirely convinced yet that it isn't structural, but i have noticed some improvements in my ability to listen to music without getting humming/pain in the ears. There is at the very least some sort of pyschosomatic element to it i think.

What are other people's experience of tinnitus? Mine used to be very bad - for a period of about 3 months there was constant and persistent pain which made even concentration difficult. Thankfully now it is just of a level which is a background hum if it's quiet, and some pain when there is loud noise....

I have read Healing Back Pain, MindBody Prescription, and the references to Tinnitus in The Divided Mind. I have had it since the 80's. So, I keep doing what Dr. Sarno states and it will go away? I cannot remember what it was like living without this ringing. Peace, Amy
