TMS Discussion Threads
The following is a list of links to some of the better discussions from our old forum. However, we encourage you to visit our new forum instead.

  • Disc Extrusions of 6-7 mm: "I was wondering if any one has had positive results with TMS with an MRI showing disc extrusions of 6-7mm. I am in the throes of back pain, sciatica, numbness and some weakness of right lower extremity. I fit the profile of Sarno's patients. I have had exacerbations of sciatica and back pain on and off for 20 years but recent MRI showed not "" bulging, or protrusions"" but extrusions. I had an MRI back in 1989 that revealed only bulging. Any input would be appreciated."

  • TMS and motherhood: "I think that Dr. Sarno wrote somewhere that 1/3 of our tension comes from the past, 1/3 of it comes from the present, and 1/3 of it comes from the future. In terms of the present, mothers are under a huge amount of stress to get a million things done and, with the responsibility of parenting, sometimes to be ""perfect."" We all know that all of this pressure is a great recipe for TMS, and in our Success Stories--Live Panel discussion I remember that motherhood came up as a frequent theme as a source of stress. ... Joy, too, but we need to recognize the tension as well."

  • The Presence Process: "I find this information so much like Dr. Sarno's in that the re-reading helps to get the message deeper, where it needs to be. This past week the presence activating statement has been hard for me to believe, in that I had forgotten that I even had innocence. Some of this information is humbling and I'm afraid I have hurt people along the way, but then I also have to acknowledge that I have probably hurt myself most of all. Sometimes I'm still afraid of being too narcissistic, but I truly hope that if I can cultivate compassion for myself, that will allow me to have true compassion for others."

  • The importance of EXPLORING OUR CHILDHOOD: "Dr. Sarno tells his patients that our “overflowing beaker” of rage is made up of three components: 1/3 childhood, 1/3 current stressors, and 1/3 our personality. When I first wrote out my “list” as prescribed by Dr. Sarno, it did not include childhood issues as I had enough currently going on to consume my writing time. But as things were uncovered in my journaling, I realized that when a couple girls picked on me in 4th grade for being the new kid, it hurt my feelings."

DanE1986 positive affirmations for red eyes, hip/leg discomfort? 2 Nov 29 2010, 9:21 AM EST by ForestForTreesTMS

I am new to affirmations and have read the article on the wiki, but would just like some general phrases tossed around. I guess I'm not all that confident in creating my own. My hip/leg discomfort is programmed to think that coughing, even the most mildly, will send off a sciatic like sensation in parts of my right leg. The harder I cough, the more it hurts. I also notice pushups are still quite painful with sciatica. With my eyes it seems that shopping centers and people in general sometimes will make them sortof dry (I was harrassed in highschool for looking like a "stoner" all the time. Any suggestions? Thanks,

Dan

I have recently developed a page about affirmations. You can find it at http://tmswiki.wetpaint.com/page/Affirmations
I was wondering if anyone has used affirmations before, and if the approach has been helpful. It seems like there is some merit in the approach. I was wondering what techniques other people used and thought were successful.

There is a good amount of information on the page already, but I think more can be added to make it as comprehensive as possible. Take a look at it and tell me if there is anything that I missed or that should be changed. I am always excited about having a group of people develop a page on the wiki. This is everyone's wiki so please help to make it better. You can find the page at http://tmswiki.wetpaint.com/page/Affirmations
